GE4 Afterburner Test Rig
(Spath)
Terry Spath provided this image of the General Electric GE4 afterburner test rig. The GE4 was being developed for the Boeing 2707 Supersonic Transport. For afterburner testing the core flow was provided by two General Electric J79s to match the GE4's mass flow (Mdot). Terry's Company built and operated a somewhat similar system used in developing Mach 3.5 propulsion for the DARPA RASCAL Program.

General Electric blade cooling is thought by many to be the best in the industry. The following images show the exquisite form and intricate internal cooling channels in a cut-away high-pressure turbine blade. The blade is about 1.5" high.

The following images detail a low pressure turbine blade. The trailing edge notch prevents reuse and the paper clip helps it stand up for photographing. The blade is about 3" high.
