Tracing its lineage to the 1934 DB 600, the DB 601-1E was used in the Messerschmitt Bf 109F, Bf 110F-G/-1/-3 and Bf110-G/-1 aircraft. An 12-cylinder liquid-cooled inverted V-12, the DB 601 incorporated direct fuel injection and variable-speed supercharging. Power of the DB 601 family ranged from 1,100 hp to 2,770 hp for the highly-modified Weltrekordmotor Re 5. The DB 601-1E was rated at 1,350 hp.
