Allison XT40-A-4B
The T40 (Allison Model 509) was a 5,500 eshp turboprop consisting of two Allison T38s driving a contra-rotating propeller through a reduction gearbox. Full scale tests began in 1948, with a first flight in May 1949 in the nose of a B-17G test bed. The T40 was used in several experimental U.S. Navy aircraft, including the Convair XP5Y-3, Lockheed XFV-1 Pogo Stick , Convair XFY-1 Pogo, and Douglas A-2D Skyshark. Approximately 240 T40s were built.
