Years ago he and I talked on the phone many times, I miss him.
I did a search, and I think all this applies. I remember him telling me about the Detroit diesel speed record at the salt flats.

Detroit Diesel
this diesel streamliner in 1972 was build at College of the Redwoods overseen by instructor Bob Haveman car went over 200 MPH but couldn't back it up.
