Incorporating twelve opposed pistons within six inline cylinders the liquid-cooled 1,000 hp Jumo 207 diesel offered very good specific fuel consumption and the ability to operate at high altitudes. An exhaust-driven turbosupercharger allowed it to maintain sea-level power to 26,000 ft, and Junkers Ju 86 P and R reconnaissance/bomber aircraft could fly as high as 49,000 ft.
