Nagel (US)

Nagel engines are designed and built by the Nagel Engine Company, which was founded in 1998 by Will Nagel and four associates with complementary engineering and business backgrounds and skills. The firm is located in the Jacksonville, Florida area [phone number (904) 277-8669]. The first Nagel engine design is described below. The engine was announced for the first time at the EAA Oshkosh Air Venture in July-August 2003. Information can be found on the Nagel Website.

Liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, turbocharged, dual solid-state-ignition engine, geared to 0.5. The ignition system eliminates magnetos by having a coil for each cylinder while two alternators are used, one for one set of spark plugs only and the other for the second set of plugs and the remaining electrical requirements. Firm says engine was designed "to do the job of existing 540 cubic inch engines, but with significant improvements in performance, maintenance and durability".
